BOSTON—After collecting a pair of conference
victories, the Babson College women's tennis team swept the New England
Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) weekly awards for the
third week in a row on Tuesday. Sophomore Yagmur Akgul (Istanbul, Turkey) was selected as the league's singles player of the week, while senior Tori Paolino (East Orleans, Mass.) and junior Dina Weick (Woodbridge, Conn.) were honored as the doubles team of the week.
Akgul was tabbed as the NEWMAC Singles Player of the Week for the
fourth time this fall and third week in a row after two straight-set
victories at number one. She defeated Izzy Gorham of Wheaton, 6-1, 6-1,
and Ayame Yazawa of Mount Holyoke, 6-1, 6-1, as the Beavers posted a
pair of 9-0 wins.
Paolino and Weick were recognized as the conference's doubles team of
the week for the second time this season after back-to-back wins. The
duo defeated Gorham and Caroline DiNicola-Fawley of Wheaton, 8-1, at
number one on Tuesday, and then were 8-2 winners over Amy Chen and
Madison Cohen of Mount Holyoke on Saturday.
Babson (9-1, 6-1 NEWMAC) will conclude NEWMAC regular-season play when it hosts Emerson on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
