In a field of 263 runners, Gong placed 11th overall and second among Division III student-athletes at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Championships with a time of 18:05.56 over the weekend. From a week ago at the Purple Valley Classic, Gong bested her time by 4:01.64. In a tough field of Division I, II and III harriers, Gong helped MIT to a fifth place finish, first among Division III schools.

Association (USTFCCCA) poll, runs again next weekend at the Connecticut College Invitational held at Harkness Park in Waterford, Conn. The Engineers return to Franklin Park in three weeks for the NEWMAC Championships scheduled for Saturday, November 1.
Penn Tabbed for NEWMAC Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week Honors
For the second time this season MIT sophomore Emily Penn (Elkridge, Md.) was picked as the NEWMAC Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week. In a 2-0 week for the Engineers, she registered four goals in a pair of NEWMAC outings.
Penn produced her third hat trick of the season in a 5-1 victory over Wheaton College last Tuesday as she provided MIT's first marker 1:11 into the game and then scored the game-winner in the 27th minute. On Saturday versus Clark University, she converted her first penalty stroke attempt of the year in the 43rd minute to give the Engineers a 3-0 lead as they went on to record a 5-0 win.MIT (8-2, 4-0 NEWMAC) will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 17 with a trip to Smith College (6-6, 3-2 NEWMAC).
Hrabchak Earns NEWMAC Offensive Player of the Week Honors
MIT freshman Allie Hrabchak (Princeton, N.J.) has earned New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week accolades for the first time in her career, as announced by the conference office earlier this afternoon.
In a 2-1 week for MIT women's soccer, Hrabchak led the Engineers with three goals and an assist, registering one goal in each of MIT's games this week. In the 3-1 win over Wheaton College, she netted an insurance goal off of a double assisted free kick, while she opened the scoring against Clark, just three minutes into the game. Hrabchak also snapped Williams College's 517:21 minute shutout streak with the Engineer's only goal in the contest in the 68th minute. Hrabchak now leads the Cardinal and Gray in goals with seven and points with 15 in her rookie campaign.MIT (7-5-2, 4-1-0 NEWMAC) travels to Wellesley College for a conference matchup with the Blue this afternoon at 3:00 p.m. and heads to Smith College on Saturday, October 17 for a NEWMAC tilt against the Pioneers scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
Maloney Named NEWMAC Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
MIT freshman Dennis Maloney (New Albany, Ohio) was named as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week, as announced by the conference office earlier this afternoon.Maloney finished fifth among Division III runners and 29th overall with a time of 25:23.34 at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Championships over the weekend. In a tough field comprised of Division I, II and III student-athletes, Maloney shined in his second career race, besting his time from last weekend's Purple Valley Classic by nearly 50 seconds. Maloney also helped the Engineers to a 9th place finish overall, which was the second best among all Division III teams at the meet.
