NESCAC WOMEN'S GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL
AMHERST, Mass. – This weekend, the Amherst College women's golf team
will compete in the inaugural NESCAC Women's Golf Championship at the
Taconic Golf Club in Williamstown, Mass. Williams will host the
tournament, which will begin Saturday, Oct. 10 at noon with a shotgun
start, and play continuing Sunday, Oct. 11 at 9 a.m.
Through three tournaments, the Purple & White have emerged as one
of the top contenders to take the conference crown. After placing
fourth at the NYU Invitational (642) and the Mount Holyoke Invitational
(651), Amherst posted its best finish of the early season last weekend
when it claimed second overall at the Middlebury Invitational (656).
Senior co-captain Devyn Gardner
is off to a terrific start for the Purple & White and is coming off
a
first-place finish at the Middlebury Invite after carding a two-day,
36-hole score of 160 (84-76). She finished in a tie for first with three
others after cutting eight strokes off her day one mark.
Zoe Wong
'18 has been consistent all season, and posted the second lowest
Amherst score in each invitational thus far. At the Mount Holyoke
Invitational, Wong shot a hole-in-one on the 155-yard par-3 10th, and
finished with a two-day 162.
The Purple & White have also benefited from the success of several newcomers: first-years Kate Weiss, Katie Rosenberg and Maggie Schoeller.
Weiss led Amherst in its first two tournaments this season, and
finished tied for third at Mt. Holyoke with a 154 (73-81). Rosenberg's
best outing occurred in her first collegiate invitational, in which she
shot a season-low 162 (82-80), while Schoeller carded a season-low 172
(87-85) at Mt Holyoke.
