Gray, Labrie Earn MASCAC Weekly Honors

WESTFIELD, Mass. –  Westfield State University women's basketball swept the weekly MASCAC awards, as senior guard Melissa Gray (Peabody, Mass.) was named the league's player of the week, while first-year Lila Labrie (Southampton, Mass./Hampshire Regional) was named as the circuit's rookie of the week.

Gray averaged 21 points, 10 rebounds, three as­sists and 4.7 steals per game in

a 2-1 week for the Owls.

She connected for 28 points and 13 rebounds in the Owls' 82-63 win over New England College, then added 19 points, nine rebounds and seven steals in a setback to Springfield College. Finally, she capped the week with 17 points, eight rebounds and five assists in the Owls' 84-63 win over Mitchell College.

Gray is steadily climbing the Owls all-time lists in several categories.  She's currently fifth in career scoring with 1,460 career points, just 66 away from the school record.  Gray is fourth in field goals made (529), and second in three-pointers made with 268, just 19 behind her current head coach, Andrea Bertini '98.   Gray's 772 career three pointers attempted is a school record.  She's also fourth in career steals with 271.

Gray is averaging 20.4 points per game this season.

Labrie is off to a strong start as an Owl, as this week she averaged 9.3 points, two rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.7 steals in a 2-1 week for the Owls. She netted a collegiate best 12 points and handed out four assists in an 84-63 win over Mitchell College while shooting 2-5 from 3-point range.

Labrie is averaging 4.5 points per game through eight games this season.

Westfield is 2-6 this season, having won two of its last three games.  The Owls will travel to Conn College on Tuesday night before closing out the fall semester portion of the schedule with a home game against Western New England on Saturday, December 11.
