Springfield, Mass. - December 6, 2021 - Springfield College had a pair of student-athletes recognized by the New England Women's And Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) for their efforts in competition over the last week.
Sam Hourihan (Bridgewater, Mass.) was named NEWMAC Women's Basketball Defensive Athlete of the Week and Luca Brashear (Amherst, Mass.) was tabbed as the NEWMAC Men's Co-Diver of the Week.
In the Gompei Invitational at WPI, Brashear took first in the three-meter diving
competition after registering a score of 452.30 and was the runner-up on the one-meter with a total of 457.80, which are both NCAA Diving Regional 11-dive qualifying scores.On the hardwood, Hourihan did it all for the Pride in their lone win of the week against Westfield State. Springfield beat the Owls 93-59 behind an all out effort from Hourihan as the Physical Therapy major pulled down 14 rebounds, while recording three steals and five rejections. The victory gave Springfield, who are receiving votes in the WBCA and D3hoops.com National Polls, their eighth win of the season and is the Pride's best start since the 1981-82 campaign. The forward also tallied 17 points and seven assists.
