 BELFAST, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom -- Sophomore forward C.J. Smith (Des Moines, Iowa) scored the extra attacker game-tying goal with 39 seconds left and junior defenseman Dylan Zink (Madison, Wis.) scored the only goal in the shootout to help the No. 4 ranked UMass Lowell Hockey team capture the inaugural Belpot Trophy in the 5-5 tie against Brown at SSE Arena on Saturday night in the "Friendship Four" Championship Game.

The River Hawks now own a 10-1-4 record, while Brown moves to 2-4-3 overall.

RUTLAND, Vt. – The Tufts University men's hockey team captured the Rutland Herald Invitational crown on Saturday evening, defeating Brockport by a final score of 4-3 at Spartan Arena.  Junior Mike Leary netted a hat trick in the championship game for Tufts, earning him Most Valuable Player honors for the tournament. Chase Nieuwendyk scored a pair of goals, while Ryan Kangas contributed a pair of assists.

Despite a strong start from Brockport (4-5), Tufts (1-2-2) took the first lead of the contest after rookie David Lackner grabbed his second career goal. Classmate Clay Berger picked up an assist on the play, as his pass to the near post led to Lackner's top-shelf finish, which gave the Jumbos an early one-goal advantage.

Sixteen Eagles Start Season on NHL Rosters

Boston College placed 16 skaters on a National Hockey League roster as announced by the NHL on Wednesday morning, marking the second most of any other school in the country.

Michigan led the way with 17 former student-athletesm while Wisconsin and North Dakota finished third and fourth, respectively, with 14 and 12.

The Eagles tied with Wisconsin for the most skaters to dress in an NHL game last season, matching the Badgers' total of 22.

This season, there was a record 59 former skaters from Hockey East on an NHL roster as of Oct. 7.

Men's Ice Hockey Alums DiPietro, Driscoll Join Pro Ranks

BABSON PARK, Massachusetts — Following stellar careers that featured a pair of Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) East Tournament championships and back-to-back trips to the NCAA Division III quarterfinals, former Babson College men's ice hockey standouts Joe DiPietro '15 and Mike Driscoll '15 have joined the professional ranks. DiPietro inked a deal with the Wasquehal Lions in the French second division, while Driscoll signed with the Rapid City (S.D.) Rush of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL).
