FRANKLIN, Mass. – September 21, 2021– The Dean College field hockey team dropped a non-conference contest to Bridgewater State, 4-0, on a beautiful Tuesday afternoon at Grant Field.

Dean (0-6) returns to Great Northeast Athletic

Conference (GNAC) action on Friday when they host Colby-Sawyer at 4 p.m. to kick off Homecoming Weekend. Bridgewater State improves to 2-3 and will resume Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) play on Saturday with a home game with Southern Maine at 3 p.m.

The teams played a scoreless first quarter. Bridgewater State earned four penalty corners and took two shots on goal, but Dean sophomore goalie Mackenzie Fillion (New Bedford, Mass.) made the save each time.

With less than six minutes to play in the second quarter, the Bears got on the scoreboard when senior Katie Swart (Bridgewater, Mass.) found the back of the cage with her first goal of the season.

The third quarter was played in the middle third of the field as the teams combined for only one shot in 15 minutes of action. Lauren Torres (Taunton, Mass.) took the shot for the Bears, and although it got past the goalie, Dean junior Zoe Coleman (Warwick, R.I.) was there for her team leading third defensive save of the season.

The Bears would score three times in the fourth quarter en route to the 4-0 victory. Senior Victoria Camara (Westport, Mass.), sophomore Kelly Sharkey (Salisbury, Mass.) and sophomore Zoe Bergeron (Blackstone, Mass.) each scored for Bridgewater State.

Fillion finished with six saves for the Bulldogs, while Bridgewater State first-year Emily Ronan (North Billerica, Mass.) stopped the only shot she faced.
