BC snapped an eight-game winning streak for the Terriers

BOSTON, Mass. – The Boston College softball team defeated Boston University, 1-0, at the BU Softball Field behind a late-inning home run by senior Jordan Chimento and a complete game four-hit performance by redshirt junior pitcher Allyson Frei.

Frei allowed a single and a walk with two outs in the first inning of the game, but picked up the final out. She would not allow another hit until the fourth inning, but it was wasted as the Terriers were unable to plate the runner.

BC posed the biggest threat of the game for both teams in the fourth inning when junior Carly Severini hit a double followed by a walk by freshman Cami Sellers and a hit by pitch by Chimento to load the bases with two outs. The Eagles did not score though. Both teams entered the seventh inning scoreless, but a solo home run by Chimento to lead off the seventh secured a 1-0 victory for BC.

Frei threw her fourth complete game of the season and her second shutout. Chimento collected her first home run of the year.

The Eagles return to ACC action when they travel to Syracuse, N.Y. to take on the Orange in a three-game series beginning on Friday, March 31 at 1 p.m.

Game 1 Turning Point:.
Frei held the Terriers scoreless through seven innings as a home run by Chimento in the seventh was all it took for the Eagles to secure a 1-0 victory over BU.

How it Happened:
  • Madi Killebrew of BU picked up a single in the first inning and Emma Wong drew a walk after a seven pitch at-bat to put runners on first and second with two outs, but the Terriers would not score.
  • Sharabba picked up the first Eagles hit of the day with a single up the middle in the third inning, but BC was unable to get anything going.
  • With two outs in the fourth inning, Severini blasted a double to left center field. Sellers drew a walk and Chimento was hit by a pitch, loading the bases for BC. A foul out by junior Allyson Moore however, ended the inning.
  • BU threatened in the fifth inning when Jen Horita singled up the middle and Brittany Younan walked, putting runners on first and second with only one out. Frei forced Alex Heinen to hit into a fielder's choice and Killebrew to ground out, to hold the Terriers scoreless.
  • Chimento led off the seventh inning with a deep home run to left center field to put the Eagles up 1-0.
