Springfield, MA- Three Springfield College hurlers combined on a one hitter to lead the Pride past the visiting MCLA Trailblazers 7-0 this afternoon at Barry Allen Field. With the win, the Pride improve to 11-3-2 overall while MCLA comes off an eleven day layoff as they fall to 6-4.
Springfield starter Nick Naples earned the win tossing six no hit innings improving to 2-0 on the season. He worked around a pair of walks and a hit batter but kept the MCLA offense at bay. Fletcher Comment worked the next two frames surrendering one hit and working around three hit batters. Ken Manero worked a perfect ninth to close things out.
The Pride had trouble scoring early as MCLA rotated pitchers in every inning. Springfield finally got on the board with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings. A Cam Rivest RBI single off Trailblazer hurler Schuyler Robinson gave the hosts a 1-0 edge in the fourth inning. A Trailblazer wild pitch in the fifth inning brough home another run to increase the margin to 2-0.
While MCLA couldn't muster any offense, the Pride broke the game open with two runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh. The key hit in the sixth inning was a Rivest two run single. In the seventh inning, Mark Joao and Jake Gleason had back to back RBI hits while another came home on a bases loaded walk for the final margin.
MCLA was without a hit until the eighth inning when Logan Rumbolt finally broke up the no hitter with a single to left field. He was erased trying to stretch it into a double.
Robinson was tagged with the loss for the Trailblazers. MCLA was outhit 9-1 in the contest.
The Trailblazers are scheduled to open up MASCAC play this weekend when they take on Framingham State University.
