Winter Haven, FL --- Sophomore Steven D'Agostino (Shrewsbury, MA) pitched a three-hit shutout in game one and senior Alex Venditti
(Newton, MA) logged an RBI and two runs scored in game two as WPI swept
Waynesburg (PA), 4-0 and 5-2, Monday morning in a non-conference
baseball doubleheader at Chain of Lakes Park.
The Engineers head into an off-day with a 2-2 record while the Yellow Jackets fall to 1-4 on the young season.

game effort. His counterpart also
went the distance allowing just two
earned runs and fanning three.
Venditti (2-RBI single, Sac Fly) drove in three runs while senior John Caliri (Hanson, MA) added another on an RBI double. Senior DJ Ouellette (Watertown, CT) was the only batter for either team to notch a pair of hits and classmate Vinny D'Ambrosio (Mahopac, NY) chipped in with his first of two doubles of the day. Junior Nick Comei (Haverhill, MA) led the way with two stolen bases while senior Anthony Capuano (Stoneham, MA) and freshman Steven Gallagher (Coventry, RI) were each credited with one.
Game two saw the Engineers score three in the first. Vendetti used an
RBI single to plate D'Ambrosio before Capuano drove in Comei with a hit
up the middle. Ouellette's RBI ground out allowed Venditti to complete
the circuit for the early lead.
Waynesburg finally got on the scoreboard with a 2-RBI double to center with two-outs in the bottom of the third.
WPI added two more in the top of the seventh behind a single by senior Sean Greene (Hingham, MA) and a fielder's choice put into play by Capuano.

(Billerica, MA) went six innings, which included 1-2-3 frames in the
first, second, fourth and fifth. He yielded two runs on two hits while
striking out six and walking three. Junior Dan Bettigole (South Windsor, CT) struck out one in a 1-2-3 seventh to earn the save. Both starters hurled 99 pitches.
