Whitham Tabbed As NECC Golfer and Rookie of the Week

NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass.—After closing with a round of 1-under par 71 to claim league golfer and rookie of the year honors, Babson College first-year Riley Whitham (Harvard, Mass.) was selected as the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Golfer and Rookie of the Week on Monday.

Whitham posted a 10-shot victory at the NECC Championship over the weekend, posting a 36-hole total of even par 144 at the Stow Acres Country Club North Course. He made five birdies and finished -3 on the par 5's as part of an opening round 73 (+1) on Saturday, and followed it up with a pair of birdies and just one bogey in the final round.

The team's top player with a 73.5 stroke average in eight rounds this fall, Whitham helped lead the Beavers to their second consecutive NECC title and the conference's automatic bid to the 2016 NCAA Division III Championship.

Babson returns to action on Thursday when it tees it up at the Westfield State Invitational beginning at 11 a.m.
