With the win, Babson improves to 8-2-3 overall and remains unbeaten in NEWMAC games with a record of 2-0-3. Wellesley now stands at 5-3-2 (0-2-1 NEWMAC) on the year.
The Beavers struck twice to take a 2-0 lead in the first half, scoring both goals off deflections in front of the Wellesley goal.
Babson senior Meghan Tyson (Scarborough, Maine) helped the hosts open the scoring just six minutes into the contest on a corner kick, as Tyson's ball into the penalty area took a deflection off a Blue defender and went into the net.
The Beavers got another favorable bounce to make the score 2-0 in the 40th minute, when first year Jessica Fernandez (Pawtucket, R.I.) fired a strike off a Wellesley defender and past Blue senior goalkeeper Kat Goldsmith (Armonk, N.Y.).
Goldsmith made eight saves in the contest for the Blue, playing the full 90 minutes. In the Babson goal, a pair of first year net minders, Elizabeth Mycock (Windham, Maine) and Maddison Gierschick (Hopkinton, Mass.), combined to make six saves. Mycock played the opening 76:49 of the contest to earn the win.
The Blue nearly got on the board in the 65th minute, but sophomore Melise Knowles (Diablo, Calif.) connected with the cross bar on her second shot of the game. Knowles finished with a team-high three shots for the Blue, as Babson held a 14-8 edge in shots in the contest.
With Wellesley unable to draw within one, the Beavers added another goal less than five minutes later when sophomore Meghan Lee (Stow, Mass.) finished on a set up from first year Julia Lindsay (Newton, Mass.) to make the score 3-0.
Both teams will continue NEWMAC play on Saturday at 12:00 PM. Wellesley will return home to host Mount Holyoke, while Babson will host Coast Guard.
