SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Behind four singles victories and a strong
battle in double, the Mount Holyoke College tennis team posted a 6-3 win
at Springfield College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic
Conference (NEWMAC) action on Tuesday evening.
With the victory, the Lyons improve to 7-2 with a 5-2 record in the league, while the Pride slip to 3-5 and 2-5 in the NEWMAC.
MHC's first doubles pair of Ayame Yazawa and Margaux Holloschutz
picked up a point in the visitors' favor with an 8-4 win over Rachel
London and Stephanie Foster. The Pride grabbed a win at second doubles
as Melissa Parrish and Rachel Litchfield defeated Ishita Tibrewal and Alexa Colas by a 9-7 margin.
The Lyons headed into singles action with a 2-1 lead after the duo of Amy Chen and Madison Rosen notched a 9-7 win of their own against Emily Etter and Ariana Shemms.
Yazawa went on to defeat London in the first flight of singles action
with a 6-3, 6-0 score. Holloschutz recorded a 6-3, 6-2 victory over
Etter at two, while Tibrewal bested Foster at three with a 6-4, 6-4
margin.
In the fourth flight, Springfield recorded a 6-3, 6-3 victory as Litchfield beat Colas. Parrish then defeated MHC's Clara Wang 6-4, 6-4 at five. The Lyons went on to see Michelle Cai gut out a strong victory in the sixth flight, defeating Shemms, 0-6, 6-3, 1-0 (12-10).
Mount Holyoke returns to action this weekend when it hosts Babson on
Saturday at 11:30am. Springfield welcomes Wellesley, also on Saturday at
12pm.
