ITHACA, N.Y. – Harvard women's soccer earned its fourth consecutive victory, taking down Cornell, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon.
The Crimson (6-6-1, 3-0-0 Ivy) tallied a pair of first-half goals from Emily Mosbacher and Margaret Purce, with Bailey Gary and Marie Becker recording assists. The Crimson outshot the Big Red (8-1-3, 1-1-1 Ivy), 16-4, including a 10-2 advantage in the first period. Lizzie Durack made two saves in goal en route to earning her fifth shutout of the season.
Mosbacher tallied her first goal of the season in the 21st minute when she headed a cross from Bailey Gary into the back of the net from 10 yards out. The score was the 10th of Mosbacher's career.
Five minutes later, Purce extended Harvard's lead to 2-0 after she drove the length of the field, cut back and drilled a shot into the lower corner. The goal was Purce's seventh of the season, and moved her into a tie for sixth place on the all-time Harvard goals list. Becker earned her first-career point on the play.
Harvard continued to control the pace of play in the second half, firing six attempts at goal compared to two for Cornell.
The Crimson returns home for a Saturday, Oct. 17 contest with Brown at Jordan Field. The 1:30 p.m. kickoff can be seen live on the Ivy League Digital Network.
