Rams charge past Bison, 7-2

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Nichols College baseball team fell to Suffolk University, 7-2, on Thursday night in non-conference action at DiBenedetto Field on the campus of Trinity College in Hartford, Conn.
 
The Bison drop to 6-12 overall and return to action on Saturday afternoon with a non-conference twinbill at Tufts University starting at 12:30 p.m. The Rams improved to 5-13 overall with the win.
 
Sophomore Kyle Bouchard went 2-for-4, while classmate Ryan Nesbit went 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored to pace the Nichols offense. Senior Nick Roy was 1-for-4 with an RBI, while freshman Nathaniel Cormier was also 1-for-4 with a run scored. Freshman Shay Souza also added a 1-for-3 day for the Bison. Roy, senior Cam Cook, and Cormier also had stolen bases in the game.
 
Senior Vincent Amato dropped to 1-2 on the year with the setback, allowing four runs (one earned) on eight hits with a walk and three strikeouts in 5.0 innings pitched. Junior Danny Hayden allowed a hit and a walk in one inning of work, while sophomore Steven Lockwood had a strikeout and a walk in 0.2 innings.
 
Suffolk junior Charles Batchelder held the Bison to two runs on five hits with two walks and seven strikeouts in eight innings of work to pick up the victory. Junior Trevor Lee went 2-for-5 with a pair of runs scored, while senior Greg Speliotis was 1-for-2 with two RBI.
 
The Rams opened the scoring in the top of the second inning on an RBI single by Blasé Cormier, and the Bison answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the third as Roy drove in Nesbit with an RBI single to knot the game at 1-1.
 
Suffolk took advantage of a Nichols error in the top of the fifth, eventually scoring three runs in the frame, to jump out to a 4-1 advantage. After Suffolk extended its lead to 6-1 with runs in both the seventh and eighth innings, Nichols got one back in their half of the eighth on an RBI double by Nesbit over the left fielder's head that plated Cormier and cut the deficit to 6-2.
 
The Rams would tack on one more run in the ninth to give the game its final score of 7-2.

Thursday marked the third meeting between the two teams, and the Bison lead the matchup, 2-1.
