Babson College Women's Tennis Overpowers Smith, 9-0

NORTHAMPTON, Mass.— Babson College dropped just two total games in doubles and won all six singles matches in straight sets en route to a 9-0 win over Smith College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's tennis action on Tuesday afternoon.

With the win, Babson improves to 7-2 overall and 3-0 in league play, while Smith drops to 1-9 overall and 0-3 in the NEWMAC with its seventh consecutive loss.

The Beavers cruised through doubles as senior Jenny Quenard (St.-Legier, Switzerland) and first-year Alexa Tutecky (North York, Ontario) won 8-2 at number one, while the duo of senior Kylie Kam (Honolulu, Hawaii) and first-year Carolina Merz (Santa Tecla, El Salvador) recorded an 8-0 victory at number two. Senior Claire Foster (Orange, Conn.) and sophomore Emily Roeper (Belle Mead, N.J.) also were 8-0 winners at number three for the Green and White.

Babson dominated singles play, beginning with Tutecky's 6-1, 6-0 triumph at number one. Merz was a 6-1, 6-2 winner at number two, Foster posted a 6-0, 6-0 result at number three, and Kam breezed to a 6-0, 6-1 decision at number four.

Roeper and junior Alexandra Blizard (Dover, Mass.) both won 6-0, 6-0 at fifth and sixth singles, respectively.

MATCH NOTES
• The Beavers have won 15 of their last 18 matches against Smith and the all-time series is now even at 15-15.
• Babson has not dropped a doubles match in seven consecutive meetings against Smith going back to 2011.
• Blizard has now won four straight matches at number six singles, while Tutecky and Quenard improved to 3-0 at number one doubles.
