Eight Members of Springfield Women's Gymnastics to Compete at NCGA National Championships This Weekend

Springfield, Mass. - March 21, 2018 - The Springfield College women's gymnastics team will have eight student-athletes represent the Pride on the national stage this upcoming weekend at the 2018 National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) National Championships, which will be hosted in Blake Arena beginning on Friday, March 23 at 5 p.m. EDT.

On Friday, freshman Ali Rushlow (Worcester, Mass.) will make her debut on the national stage during the team and all-around competition, as she took third overall at the NCGA East Regional Championships with a career-best 38.000 to book her ticket to nationals. Rushlow, who will also compete on vault in the Individual Championships on Saturday, will be joined by Tali Twomey (Cotuit, Mass.) and Taylor Jackson (Ocean, N.J.) on the apparatus, as Jackson qualified for Nationals when she tied the Springfield College program record with a 9.725 at the NCGA East Regional Championships on Saturday, March 10.

Senior Briana Kerr (Bolton, Conn.) qualified for nationals on the uneven bars for the fourth time in her career, as the Physical Therapy major was ranked one of the top five student-athletes in the country heading into the East Regionals with a seasonal-average score of 9.6188. Kerr will be joined by the 2018 NCGA East Region Gymnast of the Year, Jess Clemens (South Setauket, N.Y.), who will also compete on the balance beam come Saturday. 

Also qualifying on the balance beam was senior Lauren White (Littleton, Mass.) and sophomore Sarah Murphy (Norwell, Mass.), who both tied for second overall on the beam at the NCGA East Regional Championships with matching scores of 9.650. 

Lastly, Twomey earned a spot at nationals for the second-consecutive season in the floor exercise, an event that she earned her first-career All-America honor on in 2017. Twomey's seasonal-average score of 9.7438 helped land her a spot at nationals, as the sophomore will be joined by senior Madi Bowen (Sunderland, Mass.), who will perform on the national stage for the first time in her career. 

The two-day event will feature student-athletes from the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA), which is the governing body for Division III women's gymnastics. Video streaming will be available courtesy of FloGymnastics.

SAN JOSE, Calif., – Three-time World all-around champion Simone Biles of Spring, Texas/World Champions Centre, clinched an automatic berth to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, after posting the highest two-day total in the all-around (123.250), at the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials in front of a sold-out crowd at the SAP Center at San Jose (Calif.).

SAN JOSE, Calif., - USA Gymnastics Sunday, July 10th announced the five gymnasts and three replacement athletes that will comprise the U.S. Olympic Team for women's gymnastics that will compete at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Simone Biles of Spring, Texas/World Champions Centre, automatically qualified to the team at the conclusion of competition at the 2016 U.S. Olympic Trials for women’s gymnastics after winning the two-day all-around. The balance of the team and three replacement athletes were chosen by the Women's Selection Committee.

The five-woman team and three replacement athletes are listed below.

All athletes named to the Olympic Team are subject to the approval of the U.S. Olympic Committee's Board of Directors.

SCOTLAND, Glasgow – Led by two-time World all-around champion Simone Biles of Spring, Texas/World Champions Centre, the U.S. Women’s Team will compete in the qualifying round at the 2015 World Gymnastics Championships at the SSE Hydro Arena in Glasgow, Scotland, on Oct. 24 at 4:30 p.m. Scotland/11:30 a.m. U.S. Eastern time. The U.S. women are competing in the 10th of the qualifying round’s 12 subdivisions. The countries that qualify for women’s gymnastics at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, will be determined after the conclusion of Subdivision 12.
