Women's Golf Set For NESCAC Championship

Williams will host the inaugural NESCAC Women's Golf Championship at Taconic Golf Club in Williamstown, Massachusetts this weekend in conjunction with the Williams Fall Invitational. The first round starts at noon on Saturday, October 10 with a shotgun start and play continuing on Sunday, October 11 at 9:00 a.m. Previously, a NESCAC "Tournament" was held each fall, but this year an official NESCAC Champion will be crowned.

The host Ephs have been on a roll this fall, winning all three tournaments they have competed in so far this season. Williams, which is fresh off capturing the program's first NCAA Women's Golf Championship last spring, boasts a deep squad that has produced different first-place finishers at each tournament. Junior Sophie Kitchen started the year by winning the NYU Invitational with a two-day score of 146 to help the Ephs defeat host NYU by seven strokes with a team score of 614. At the Mount Holyoke Invitational the following week, Williams set a new school record by posting a 36-hole score of 605 following the team's first sub-300 round in program history (297). First-year Cordelia Chan earned medalist honors after carding a two-round score of 145. She also established a new team single-round record by firing a 68 on the second day of the tournament. Last weekend at the Middlebury Invitational, sophomores Phoebe Mattana and Elizabeth Gudas  were two of four golfers to post matching rounds of 160 at the top of the leaderboard. Mattana had also placed second at the NYU Invitational (150) and the Mount Holyoke Invitational (148).
