Springfield, Mass. - Despite another impressive performance from sophomore Rachel Litchfield (Northbridge, Mass.) and freshman Melissa Parrish (Framingham, Mass.), the Springfield College women's tennis program fell to Mount Holyoke, 6-3, on Tuesday night at the Appleton Courts.
With the loss, Springfield falls to 3-5 overall and 2-5 in New
England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play, while the
Lyons improve to 7-2 on the season, and 5-2 in the league.
After falling in the No. 1 doulbes slot, 8-4, Springfield bounced
back in the No. 2 doubles, as Litchfield and Parrish improved to 5-3 on
the season, defeating Ishita Tibrewal (Kolkata, India) and Alexa Colas
(Teaneck, N.J.), 9-7.
Trailing the Lyons 2-1 heading into singles play, Litchfield was able
to defeat Colas, 6-3, 6-3, in the No. 4 doubles slot, before Parrish
bested Clara Wang (Madison, Conn.), 6-4, 6-4, in the No. 5 doubles to
gain the third point for Springfield.
Up next, the Pride will return to the Appleton Courts on Saturday,
October 10 when it will host Wellesley in a NEWMAC contest at 12 p.m.
