Behind 35 second-half points, the Springfield College football program upset No. 22 Hobart College, 35-13, last Saturday afternoon at Stagg Field. With the win, the Pride ends the Statesmen's 24-game Liberty League win streak, and improves to 4-2 overall on the season, and 2-1 in league play. Springfield was fueled offensively by sophomore quarterback Jake Eglintine (Gansevoort, N.Y.), who posted 130 yards and one touchdown on 16 attempts, including a 51-yard run late in the game to seal the victory for the Pride. Additionally, senior fullback Keith Rodman (Nortvale, N.J.) posted 121 yards and a score on 20 carries, while junior halfback Billy DeLay (Congers, N.Y.) recorded 51 yards on the ground, including a 20-yard touchdown run for the Pride's first points of the game. Defensively, senior Anthony West (Roxbury, Mass.) played shut down defense throughout the contest, as he finished with seven tackles and a game-changing interception to kick off the second half. Christian Zotti (Newington, Conn.) also posted 11 tackles, while senior linebacker Max Nacewicz (Sandy Hook, Conn.) finished with eight stops.

Posting 571 yards of total offense over the course of the game, the Springfield College football team cruised to a 48-21 victory over Merchant Marine on Saturday afternoon at Stagg Field. Springfield set the tone in the opening half, registering an incredible 405 yards of total offense despite having the ball for just 6:16. Junior quarterback Jonathan Marrero (Boston, Mass.) totaled 205 rushing yards in the first half on nine carries, and finished with 209 for the game. The Sport Management major also passed for 131 yards on five completions over the course of the contest. Junior fullback Keith Rodman (Northvale, N.J.) accumulated 83 yards on the ground over 10 carries, while Andres Martin (Torrington, Conn.) registered 100 receiving yards on three catches, two for scores. Max Nacewicz (Sandy Hook, Conn.) led a Springfield defensive unit that was on the field for nearly 39 minutes as he posted 12 tackles.
National Ranks...
Springfield currently ranks 8th in Division III football in rushing, averaging 310.1 yards per game.
As a team, the Pride ranks third in yards per completion (20.13), 14th in time of possession (33:50), 18th in sacks allowed per game (0.67), and 27th in punt returns (15.38).
Individually, Festo is fourth in the country in combined kick returns (485 yards), Eglintine is 11th in rushing yards per carry (7.41), and Nacewicz is 30th in tackles for loss per game (1.8).
All-time series vs. Merchant Marine…
Springfield has won 11 of the 13 meetings between these two schools, dating back to 1995. Merchant Marine was victorious in both 1996 and 1997, but the Pride has since won the last 10 meetings, scoring at least 40 points on seven occasions.
About Merchant Marine…
Merchant Marine enters the game with a 1-4 record on the year, including a 0-3 mark in league action. After a season-opening win over Coast Guard, the Mariners have dropped their last four outings, including a 24-17 setback at Rochester last weekend. USMMA is averaging just over 250 yards per game on the ground, while its defense is limiting opponents to just 110 rushing yards per game.
