WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The MIT women's soccer team
fell to Williams College, ranked No. 2 in the latest National Soccer
Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon at
Cole Field.
Engineer's freshman Allie Hrabchak
(Princeton, N.J.) registered her team leading seventh goal of the
season for MIT's only tally of the afternoon. Hrabchak paced the
Cardinal and Gray offense with three shots, while classmate Selin Selman (New Rochelle, N.Y.) attempted a pair of her own shots.
Ephs junior Audrey Thomas (Bellevue, Wash.) led Williams with a goal
and an assist on the afternoon, while classmate Gabz Amos-Grosser
(Hillsborough, Calif.) scored a goal of her own to account for the hosts
offensive efforts.
MIT had a chance to take the early lead in the second minute when
Hrabchak took a shot at Ephs net
minder Tressa Palcheck (Schaumburg,
Ill.), but the ball was blocked the Williams back line, keeping the game
scoreless. Williams got on the board first at the 21:31 of the first
stanza when Thomas fed the ball to Amos-Grosser, giving the Ephs a 1-0
advantage.
Williams added its second goal, an unassisted marker by Thomas, her 11th
tally of the season, 11:44 into the second half. After Thomas' goal,
MIT put pressure on the Ephs back line with two shots on net over the
next two minutes.
Sophomore Olivia Struckman
(Scottsdale, Ariz.) had her shot blocked, while Hrabchak's chance was
saved by a diving Palcheck. Hrabchack cut the Ephs lead in half, 2-1,
with her seventh goal of the season at the 67:21 mark of the game.
Despite only getting one shot off in the first half, the Cardinal and
Gray fired six shots in net over the final 45 minutes.
Engineers junior goalkeeper Lauren Ullmann
(Princeton, N.J.) made six saves in a complete game effort as her
record moved to 7-5-2 this season, while Palcheck stopped the ball
twice, keeping the Ephs undefeated in 2015.
MIT (7-5-2) continues its New England Women's and Men's Athletic
Conference (NEWMAC) schedule at Wellesley College on Tuesday, October 13
with kick off scheduled for 3:00 p.m., while Williams (10-0-1) travels
to Skidmore College for an out of league tilt on Wednesday, October 14
at 7:30 p.m.
