BABSON PARK, Mass.—After averaging 21.5 points and 6.2
rebounds while helping the Babson College men's basketball team reach
the NCAA Division III Final Four, junior Joey Flannery (Acton, Mass.) has been selected as the SmallCollegeHoops.com DIII News preseason Player of the Year.
Just the second All-America selection in program history, Flannery
finished 15th in the nation in scoring last season and became the first
sophomore in school history to surpass 1,000 points. He was second among
Division III players in made free throws (201) and third in made field
goals (220) while leading the Beavers to a 29-3 mark that included
winning both the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference
(NEWMAC) regular-season and tournament titles.
Flannery, who was selected as the conference player of the year in
back-to-back seasons, enters his junior campaign averaging 20.4 points
and 6.2 rebounds while shooting 51.1 percent in 59 career games. He
reached double figures 48 times and scored 30 points or more on 10
occasions.
Babson, which is ranked 11th in the DIII News preseason top-25 poll,
will open the 2015-16 season against Framingham State at 5 p.m.
