BABSON PARK, Mass.—The Babson College women's tennis
team concluded New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference
(NEWMAC) regular season play with an easy 9-0 win over visiting Emerson
College on Wednesday afternoon at Farwell Courts.
With its fourth straight victory, Babson is now 10-1 overall and
finished second in the conference at 7-1. With their best league finish
since 2003, the Beavers have a bye into the NEWMAC Tournament
semifinals, which will be held at MIT. With its 20th consecutive loss,
Emerson drops to 0-9 overall and 0-8 in conference play.
The Green and White got out to a quick 3-0 lead after doubles as senior Tori Paolino (East Orleans, Mass.) and junior Dina Weick (Woodbridge, Conn.) won 8-0 at number one, and sophomores Claire Foster (Orange, Conn.) and Kylie Kam (Honolulu, Hawaii) posted an 8-0 victory at number two. Babson won by default at third doubles.
The Beavers continued to roll in singles, posting 6-0, 6-0 wins at
number one through four to go along with a pair of victories by default
at five and six. Weick, who won for the first time at second singles
this fall, is 10-0 on the year and has won 11 straight matches going
back to last season, while Kam stayed unbeaten with her triumph at
number four.
Babson steps away from dual match action to compete at the NEWITT Tournament, which begins at 1 p.m. on Friday at Smith.
MATCH NOTES
• Babson is now 5-0 all-time against Emerson.
• With two more victories on Wednesday, Paolino now has 94 combined wins in her career.
• The Green and White has now won 10 or more matches in seven of the last nine years going back to the 2007-08 campaign.
• The Beavers' seven conference wins are tied with the 2001 and 2002 teams for the second-most in program history.
