This Week Marks One of the Busiest Stretches in Gillette Stadium History
Gillette Stadium to host four major stadium events over the next seven days, including the NFL 2015 Season Premiere featuring the New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers on Thursday, Sept. 10.
FOXBOROUGH, Massachusetts – The next seven days will be one of the busiest and most exciting weeks in Gillette Stadium’s 13-year history, as the venue prepares to host four major stadium events.
Immediately following the New England Patriots’ preseason finale against the New York Giants on Sept. 3, a natural grass surface was installed inside Gillette Stadium for a pair of soccer matches. The New England Revolution host Orlando City FC on Saturday night (7:30 p.m.) in a regular season Major League Soccer match. Then, on Tuesday, Sept. 8, the U.S. Men’s National Team will host five-time World Cup champion Brazil in a friendly match (8 p.m.).
Following that match, the natural grass surface will be removed, as the organization finalizes its preparations for the NFL 2015 Season Premiere featuring the reigning Super Bowl champion Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers in primetime on Thursday, Sept. 10. Almost to the day 13 years ago, Gillette Stadium opened on Sept. 9, 2002, in exciting fashion by hosting the NFL Season Premiere featuring the Patriots and Steelers in primetime on Monday Night Football. Similar to the 2002 opening, the Patriots will kick off the NFL regular season against the Steelers as reigning Super Bowl champions. The team will celebrate its Super Bowl XLIX championship with a special pregame ceremony (8:30 p.m. kickoff). Fans are encouraged to be in their seats by 8 p.m. to participate in the ceremony.
After the Super Bowl XLIX banner is unveiled and the first NFL regular season game of 2015 is played, Gillette Stadium will immediately begin its transformation into a concert venue for global superstars, One Direction, as the band brings its ON THE ROAD AGAIN 2015 stadium tour to Foxborough on Saturday, Sept. 12. The highly anticipated show begins at 7 p.m.

Patriots reach 53-man limit
The Patriots cut seven veterans: TE Asante Cleveland, LB Darius Fleming, RB Jonas Gray, CB Robert McClain, DL Zach Moore, WR Jalen Saunders and WR Reggie Wayne.
The Patriots released one first-year player: DB Daxton Swanson
The Patriots released three rookies: DB Justin Coleman, LB Xzavier Dickson and S Brandon King.
VETERAN PLAYERS RELEASED
Cleveland, 23, was acquired by the Patriots in a trade with San Francisco in exchange for OL Jordan Devey on Aug. 18, 2015. He was originally signed by San Francisco as a rookie free agent out of Miami (Fla.) on May 12, 2014. The 6-foot-5, 250-pounder, spent the first two weeks of the regular season on the team’s practice squad before being signed to the 53-man roster on Sept. 20 and making his NFL debut at Arizona on Sept. 21. He spent the next eight weeks on the team’s practice squad before being signed to the 53-man roster on Nov. 27. Cleveland played in the team’s final five regular-season games, but did not record any catches.
Fleming, 26, was originally signed by New England as a free agent on May 16, 2014. The 6-foot-2, 255-pounder, was drafted by San Francisco in the fifth round (165th overall) of the 2012 NFL Draft out of Notre Dame. He spent the 2012 and 2013 seasons on injured reserve with a knee injury and was released by the 49ers on May 12, 2014. Fleming made the New England 53-man roster out of training camp last season but was inactive for the season-opener at Miami (9/7). He was released on Sept. 13 and signed to the practice squad on Sept. 16 before re-joining the 53-man roster on Nov. 29. Fleming played in five games and three postseason games for the Patriots last season.
Gray, 25, split time in 2014 between the New England practice squad and 53-man roster. The 5-foot-10, 225-pounder, played in eight games with three starts and finished with 89 rushing attempts for 412 yards with five touchdowns. He earned AFC Offensive Player of the Week honors after rushing for 201 yards and four touchdowns in a win at Indianapolis on Nov. 16. Gray originally entered the NFL as a rookie free agent by Miami out of Notre Dame in 2012 but spent the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list. Gray spent the 2014 season on the Baltimore practice squad.
McClain, 27, a veteran of four NFL seasons with the Carolina Panthers (2010), Jacksonville Jaguars (2011) and the Atlanta Falcons (2012-14), was signed by the Patriots as an unrestricted free agent from Atlanta on March 18, 2015. The 5-foot-9, 195-pounder, has played in 63 NFL games with 17 starts and has tallied 202 total tackles, three interceptions, 21 passes defensed, two forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries. He has also played in two postseason games in 2012 with Atlanta where he finished with one assisted tackle. Last season with the Falcons, he played in 16 games with six starts and registered 60 total tackles, one sack, two interceptions and five passes defensed.
Moore, 25, originally entered the NFL as a sixth-round draft pick (198th overall) by the Patriots out Concordia-St. Paul. The 6-foot-6, 280-pounder, played in eight regular-season games last season and finished with four total tackles, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.
Saunders, 22, was acquired by the Patriots in a trade with New Orleans on Sept. 1, 2015. He originally entered the NFL as a fourth-round draft pick (104th overall) of the New York Jets out of Oklahoma in 2014. The 5-foot-9, 165-pounder, played in three games for the Jets before being released on Sept. 29, 2014. While with the Jets, Saunders returned six punts for 26 yards. He then spent time on the practice squads of Arizona and Seattle before being signed by New Orleans to the 53-man roster on Nov. 19, 2014. He played in six games for the Saints and caught one pass for seven yards and returned nine punts for 99 yards and three kickoffs for 139 yards, including a 99-yard effort on his first career return.
Wayne, 36, a veteran of 14 NFL seasons with the Indianapolis Colts (2001-14), was signed by the Patriots on Aug. 25, 2015. The 6-foot, 203-pounder, originally entered the NFL as a first-round draft pick (30th overall) by Indianapolis out of Miami (Fla.) in the 2001 NFL Draft. Wayne sits seventh in NFL history with 1,070 receptions and eighth with 14,345 receiving yards. He is one of six players in NFL history to post four career 100-plus reception seasons (2007, 2009-2010, 2012) and became the 11th NFL player with back-to-back 100-plus receptions seasons (2009-10). He also owns the NFL record of 82 consecutive games with three or more receptions.
FIRST-YEAR PLAYERS RELEASED
Swanson, 24, was signed to the Patriots practice squad on Sept 1, 2014, and released from the practice squad on Sept. 3, 2014, before being re-signed on Sept. 17. He was originally signed by the Patriots as a free agent on May 22, 2014. Swanson entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with the Indianapolis Colts on April 30, 2013, out of Sam Houston State. The 5-foot-11, 191-pounder was released by the Colts on Oct. 29, 2013 and was signed to the San Francisco 49ers practice squad on Nov. 18, 2013. He was released by San Francisco on May 12, 2014.
ROOKIE PLAYERS RELEASED
Coleman, 22, originally entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with the Minnesota Vikings out of Tennessee on May 6, 2015. The 5-foot-11, 185-pounder, was released by Minnesota on Aug. 30, 2015. He started 25 games over his final two college seasons and finished tied for fourth in the SEC with four interceptions in 2014.
Dickson, 22, was drafted by the Patriots in the seventh round (253rd overall) out of Alabama in the 2015 NFL Draft. The 6-foot-3, 255-pounder, played in 47 games in college and finished with 91 total tackles.
King, 22, was signed by the Patriots as a rookie free agent out of Auburn on May 8, 2015. He played two seasons at Auburn after transferring from Highland Community College. The 6-foot-2, 213-pounder, began his tenure at Auburn as a safety in 2013 and then started the 2014 campaign at safety before being moved to defensive end to bolster the pass rush.

Patriots Tackle Nate Solder Receives 2015 Ron Burton Community Service Award
Patriots Chairman and CEO Robert Kraft presented Solder with the award, which is named in honor of the late Ron Burton, the first player drafted by the team and a community leader whose widespread charitable work was a model for how a Patriots player can make an impact off the field.
“Nate has been a wonderful person to get to know over the last four seasons,” said Kraft. “Time and time again, he has not only proved his diligence on the field, but his work ethic and character has shined brightly off the field as well, as he has been a tireless volunteer in the community. His devotion to helping others and countless hours of volunteerism is remarkable and worthy of this recognition.”
Solder joined the Patriots as a first round draft pick out of Colorado in 2011 and played in all 16 games with 13 starts as a rookie, with 11 of those starts at right tackle and two as a tackle-eligible tight end. He was moved to left tackle during his second season and has been a starter at that spot over the last three seasons.
He began his college career as a tight end before converting to the offensive line during his sophomore season. His receiving skills were showcased last year during the AFC Championship Game when he recorded his first NFL reception - a 16-yard touchdown pass from QB Tom Brady in the Patriots’ 45-7 victory over the Indianapolis Colts.
Solder joins a select group of Patriots players to receive the Ron Burton Award. Past recipients are Devin McCourty (2014), Matthew Slater (2013), Zoltan Mesko (2012), Jerod Mayo (2011), Vince Wilfork (2010), Kevin Faulk (2009), Larry Izzo (2008), Ty Warren (2007), Jarvis Green (2006), Matt Light (2005), Troy Brown (2004) and Joe Andruzzi (2003).

Additionally, the Patriots placed FB James Develin and rookie DB Darryl Roberts on Injured Reserve, placed LB Dane Fletcher and DL Chris Jones on the PUP/Reserve list and released G Chris Barker and rookie LB D.J. Lynch.

Barker, 25, was claimed off waivers by the Patriots from Miami on Sept. 1, 2013. The 6-foot-2, 300-pounder, originally entered the NFL as a rookie free agent by Miami out of Nevada on May 3, 2013. He played in four games as a rookie in 2013 with the Patriots. Last season, he spent the majority of the year on the New England practice squad before being signed to the 53-man roster for a two-game stint in October.
Lynch, 22, was signed by the Patriots as a rookie free agent out of Bowling Green on June 11, 2015. The 6-foot, 252-pounder, was released on Aug, 1 and re-signed on Aug. 24.
INJURED RESERVE
Develin, 27, spent part of the 2010 and all of 2011 on the Cincinnati Bengals practice squad and most of 2012 on the New England practice squad. The 6-foot-3, 255-pounder, played in all 16 games for the Patriots over the last two seasons. Last year, he played in 16 games with four starts and played in all three postseason games, including Super Bowl XLIX. Develin played as a defensive lineman during his college career at Brown.
Roberts, 24, was drafted by the Patriots in the seventh round (247th overall) in the 2015 NFL Draft out of Marshall. The 6-foot, 190-pounder, made 42 starts in his college career, second among cornerbacks in Marshall history.
RESERVE/PUP
Fletcher, 28, is a veteran of five NFL seasons with New England (2010-13) and Tampa Bay (2014). The 6-foot-2, 245-pounder originally was signed by the Patriots as a rookie free agent out of Montana State on April 29, 2010. He signed with Tampa Bay as an unrestricted free agent on March 16, 2014. Fletcher has played in 54 NFL games with 10 starts and has 100 total tackles and 4½ sacks in his career.
Jones, 25, was claimed off waivers and awarded to the Patriots from Tampa Bay on Sept. 11, 2013. The 6-foot-1, 295-pounder, originally entered the NFL as a sixth-round draft pick (198th overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft by Houston out of Bowling Green. After being released by Houston, he was claimed off waivers by Tampa Bay before being released and claimed by the Patriots. Jones has played in 28 NFL games with 23 starts for the Patriots over the last two seasons and has 83 total tackles and nine sacks.

Patriots Make Roster Moves
Boyce, 24, was originally drafted by the Patriots in the fourth round (102nd overall) in the 2013 NFL Draft out of Texas Christian. The 5-foot-11, 205-pounder, played in nine games with three starts as a rookie in 2013 and caught nine passes for 121 yards and returned nine kicks for 214 yards. Last season, Boyce began the season on the practice squad before being signed to the 53-man roster on Dec. 27. He played in the regular-season finale vs. Buffalo but did not record any statistics. He was inactive for all three postseason games.
Krause, 23, originally entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with the Cleveland Browns out of Vanderbilt in 2014. The 5-foot-11, 190-pounder, was released by Cleveland prior to the start of the regular season and joined the New England practice squad last October.
Mundine, 23, was signed by the Patriots as a rookie free agent out of Kansas on June 11, 2015. The 6-foot-2, 240-pounder, played in 45 games with 19 starts at tight end and closed his career as Kansas’ third-ranked tight end in terms of yards and receptions with 1,082 yards on 86 receptions.
Vellano, 26, originally joined the Patriots as a rookie free agent out of Maryland on May 3, 2013. The 6-foot-2, 300-pounder, made the 53-man roster as a rookie and played in 16 games with eight starts and also played in both postseason games that season. He finished the year with 48 total tackles and two sacks. Vellano began the 2014 season on the 53-man roster and then was part of the practice squad before being re-signed to the 53-man roster in the postseason. He played in five games with one start in the regular season and also saw action in the AFC Championship Game vs. Indianapolis. He finished the 2014 season with six total tackles and one sack.
Watson, 27, was signed by the Patriots as a free agent on May 12, 2015. The 6-foot-2, 245-pounder, has played in 70 NFL games, with seven starts, and has registered 120 tackles, three sacks, one interception, four passes defensed, two forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries during his five-year NFL career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2010-13), Jacksonville Jaguars (2014) and Dallas Cowboys (2014). Last season, he began the season with Jacksonville and appeared in nine games with one start. He posted nine tackles before being released on Nov. 11, 2014, and signing with Dallas on Nov. 14, 2014. He played in one game for the Cowboys, but did not accrue any statistics. He originally entered the NFL as a seventh-round draft pick (217th overall) by Tampa Bay in 2010 out of Florida State.

PATRIOTS PLACE TE JAKE BEQUETTE ON INJURED RESERVE
Bequette, 26, was originally drafted by the Patriots in the third round (90th overall) of the 2012 NFL Draft out of Arkansas. The 6-foot-5, 265-pounder appeared in eight games in his first two seasons and was a member of the Patriots practice squad in 2014. Bequette had spent the 2014 offseason transitioning from defensive end to tight end.

PATRIOTS RELEASE ROOKIE DB JIMMY JEAN
Jean, 26, was signed by the Patriots as a rookie free agent out of Alabama-Birmingham on May 8, 2015. The 6-foot-3, 205-pounder, played both safety and cornerback over two seasons at University of Alabama- Birmingham. He played in 24 games over two seasons at UAB after beginning his college career with two seasons at Arkansas Baptist Junior College.
