BEDFORD — Armstrong Ambulance Service is proud to share that EMT Delaney Kenny and Senior Clinical Director and Paramedic Nick Henderson were honored as Stars of Life by the Massachusetts Ambulance Association during National EMS Week.
On Tuesday, May 17, Armstrong Ambulance joined with other emergency medical
companies from across the Commonwealth for the third annual Massachusetts Ambulance Association Convoy of Champions, an ambulance convoy which traveled from UMass Medical Science Park in Worcester to Boston MedFlight headquarters in Bedford, with an escort from Massachusetts State Police and a UMass Memorial LifeFlight air ambulance.The convoy recognized the contributions of ambulance companies such as Armstrong during National EMS Week, celebrated this year from May 15-21. The event concluded with recognition selected EMTs, Paramedics, Emergency Medical Dispatchers and other EMS support staff in the annual Stars of Life award ceremony.
Dr. John P. Broach, Director of the Division of Emergency Medical Services and Disaster Management for UMass Memorial Health, thanked all the Stars of Life for their tireless work on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic.
EMT Delaney Kenny
EMT Kenny has worked at Armstrong since 2019. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, EMT Kenny stepped up to help Armstrong run several municipal testing locations in addition to her regular work on a BLS ambulance. She also played a large role in Armstrong’s emergency vaccination projects, and in the company’s work to provide vaccinations to the Massachusetts State Police.
During that time, EMT Kenny’s leadership skills became evident, and she was chosen to become a Field Training Officer to guide new EMTs during their field orientation.
In addition to her work with Armstrong, Kenny has traveled overseas on several occasions to do medical outreach work. In July 2021 she served as the volunteer clinical leader for a team of about 15 students from the organization Royal Servants who ventured to Nairobi, Kenya, to perform outreach work at orphanages, helping them implement COVID-19 best practices.
EMT Kenny has been recognized several times at Armstrong for her caring and empathetic work, and is attending paramedic school as she works as an EMT.
“I’m studying to grow and sharpen my skills even more, because I love this work,” EMT Kenny said. “One of my favorite things about this work is showing up to a scene and getting to make a new connection with another human being in the hopes of helping them.”
Senior Clinic Manager, EMT-P Nick Henderson
Nick Henderson started his career in emergency medical services in 1999, when he completed an EMT program while working to follow in his family’s footsteps as a third-generation firefighter in his hometown of Norwell. Henderson ended up pursuing, and attaining his paramedic certification, and on March 29, 2003, he went to work as a paramedic instead.
Henderson joined Armstrong in 2012, and has worked as a Field Training Officer, Training Coordinator, Field Operations Manager and Senior Clinical Manager.
Although Henderson has been promoted to Senior Clinical Manager, he continues to work plenty of shifts on the front lines. It is not uncommon to spot Henderson working an emergency truck on the weekends, gaining feedback from other field providers and spreading his vast knowledge to those who are hungry to learn.
“Nick is a talented paramedic who pays great attention to even the slightest of details. He truly listens to his patients and takes the time to get to know each one,” said Armstrong CEO Richard Raymond. “However, it is as an educator that some of Nick’s greatest qualities are on display. He is thorough, approachable, and patient when training new providers and never fails to lend a hand to those whom he knows will benefit. Nick encourages questions and shares his immense knowledge with both new and experienced colleagues in the field.”
