Endicott Escapes With 1-0 Victory

Salem, Mass. --  Mark Greco's (Belchertown, MA) goal in the 52nd minute was the only score of the night, and it was enough to push the Gulls of Endicott past the Vikings of Salem State 1-0 on Monday night at Alumni Field. The victory gives the Gulls (9-1-1) their ninth straight win, while the Vikings drop to 0-10 on the year.

In the 29th minute of play the Gulls had a prime scoring opportunity when Diego Slobotzky (Mexico City, Mexico) received a through ball with only the goalie to beat. However, Vikings' defender Mitch Tepe (Sterling, MA) kept Slobotzky off the scoreboard with a perfectly executed slide tackle. Salem State's offense also had a great scoring chance before the half when goalie Nick Weinstein (Trumbull, CT) denied Christian Romero (Boston, MA) with an impressive leaping save, punching the high shot just over the cross bar to keep the first half scoreless.

Salem State had another scoring chance in the 50th minute when Nicholas Bettencourt (Peabody, MA) rifled a shot aimed for just below the cross bar, which was stopped by another Weinstein leap, again pushing the ball out of play. However, minutes later, Endicott finally cracked Salem State's defense as Greco scored an easy goal on the right side of the net due to a last minute pass from Shintaroh Itoh (Colchester, CT) that pulled Vikings' goalie Greg Enos (Peabody, MA) out of position. Greco's goal would stand up earning the Gulls their ninth win of the season.

Endicott's offense outshot Salem State 13-8.

Weinstein stopped seven shots in the shutout. Enos made four saves on five shots for Salem State.

The Vikings' season continues on October 7th when they travel to Nichols College to take on the Bison at 4:00 p.m. Endicott will take on the Colonels of Curry College on October 10th at 2:00 p.m.
