MIAMI — Two men were rescued by a Coast Guard Station Key West, Fla., boatcrew after their vessel capsized in the vicinity of Marquesas, Fla., Monday afternoon.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Key West received a report from two men aboard the motor vessel Blue Reaction that their vessel was taking on water. The watchstanders issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast (UMIB) and launched a boatcrew from Station Key West to assist the mariners.
The boatcrew arrived on scene and rescued the two men, who were wearing lifejackets, from the water.
"Wearing your life jacket and equipping your vessel with a VHF radio and Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon (EPIRB) greatly improves your chances for survival during emergencies on the water," said Lt. Ricky Brooks, command duty officer at Coast Guard Sector Key West.
There were no reports of any injuries.
Commercial salvage was contacted to recover the overturned vessel.
