Two Rescued From Sailing Vessel In Gulf Of Mexico



Coast Guard rescues 2 from sailing vessel in Gulf of Mexico

NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard rescued two people from a damaged sailing vessel approximately 50 miles southwest of Terrebone Bay in the Gulf of Mexico, Friday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a report at 3:21 a.m. from the off-shore supply vessel Lady Brandy that a man and a woman aboard the 36-foot sailing vessel Escape Pod were in distress due to damaged sail and rigging and requested assistance.

Sector New Orleans directed the launch of a Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew to the scene. Once on scene, the aircrew hoisted the man and woman aboard and administered first aid to the woman for a laceration on her leg. The aircrew then transported the two people back to Air Station New Orleans to awaiting emergency medical personnel and were transported to Ocshner Medical Center in New Orleans.

The towing vessel Paul A. Callais is towing the disabled sailing vessel into Port Fourchon.

The man and woman's conditions are unknown.
