NORTON, Massachusetts – The MIT women's volleyball team
improved to 17-1 overall and 6-0 in NEWMAC play following a tri-match
hosted by Wheaton College on Saturday. The Engineers topped Wheaton,
25-17, 26-28, 25-18, 25-21, in a conference battle before taking down
Framingham State, 15-25, 25-16, 25-15, 25-13.
In the opener versus the Lyons, junior Megan Gebhard (Howell, Mich.) paced MIT with 15 kills as sophomore Lisette Tellez (Miami, Fla.) compiled 15 digs, 12 kills, and three blocks. Freshman Abby Bertics (La Jolla, Calif.) posted nine kills and four blocks while sophomore Alli Davanzo (St. Johns, Fla.) recorded eight kills, five blocks, and two aces. Senior Meryl Gibbs (Bellaire, Texas) bolstered the front row with three blocks as junior Tori Wuthrich (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich.) collected 16 digs. Sophomore Clare Farley (La Jolla, Calif.) totaled 10 digs and four aces while freshman Carly Silvernale (Bellevue, Wash.) added seven digs and three aces. Freshman Fiona Tanuwidjaja (Renton, Wash.) notched 24 assists and eight digs as classmate Christina Liao (Warren, N.J.) distributed eight assists.
Tellez amassed a match-high 14 kills to go along with 17 digs in the
win over the Rams while Gebhard produced 11 kills and two blocks.
Davanzo registered 10 kills and four blocks as Gibbs tacked on nine
kills and two blocks. Wuthrich racked up 18 digs while Farley
contributed 12 digs and two aces. Tanuwidjaja dished out 37 assists as
junior Jennie Glerum (Redmond, Wash.) and freshmen Carly Staub (Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.) and Kerrie Greene (Alpharetta, Ga.) each earned two aces.
Next up for MIT will be a home match against NEWMAC rival Wellesley College on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at 7:00 p.m.
