BETHLEHEM, Pa. -
University of Massachusetts men's cross country claimed 15th out of 27
teams with 402 points in an impressive showing at the Paul Short
Invitational on Friday. Senior Ben Groleau
took the lead yet again this week at the Lehigh University-based meet,
completing the 8K course in 24 minutes, 55-seconds. Georgetown,
Villanova, and Guelph claimed first through third, respectively, in team
standings.
Groleau was the first runner across the line for the Minutemen for a
second straight meet. The Framingham native's 24 minute, 55-second
performance earned 46th overall. Jay McMahon was next for UMass, at 25 minutes, 12-seconds, good for 70th in the field of 278 runners.
Daniel Sheldon was the third Minuteman to finish as he claimed 86th with a 25-minute, 18-second run. Sophomore Samuel Conway
found himself in the top-five UMass finishers for the third time this
season, taking 96th overall at 25:24. Rounding out the top-five was Paolo Tavares whose 25 minute, 45-second run earned 131st.
Next week the Minutemen will head to the New England Championship. The
meet is set for 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10 at Franklin Park in Boston,
Mass.
