Springfield, Massachusetts - The
Springfield College field hockey program was able to hold the No. 19
Williams College Ephs to just one goal, but eventually fell, 1-0, on
Wednesday evening at Stagg Field.
With the loss, the Pride fall to 4-5 overall, while the Ephs are now 7-2 on the year. Senior goalkeeper Timarie Villa (Mashpee, Mass.)
finished the contest with three saves, while her counterpart, Margaret
Draper (Belmont, Mass.) registered two stops in the win. The Ephs held a
13-7 advantage in shots, and an 8-7 margin in penalty corners.
For the Pride, freshman Amanda Nusbaum (Pittsford, N.Y.) posted a team-high four shots, while sophomore Maggie Kennedy (Clay, N.Y.) notched a pair of shots in the loss.
Williams got on the board just 12:06 into the contest, when Hannah
Goodrick (Darien, Conn.) sent in a penalty corner to Annie VanWagenen
(Rye, N.Y.), who fired a shot on cage. After Villa stopped the initial
chance, the ball bounced to Goodrick, who was able to find the back of
the net to give the Ephs a 1-0 advantage.
Springfield, which had five of its seven shots in the second half,
was relentless all game, as the Pride had a few chances down the
stretch, but Draper and the stingy Williams' defense was able to hold
the Pride at bay.
Up next, Springfield will travel to Norton, Mass. on Saturday,
October 3 for a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference
(NEWMAC) contest with Wheaton College.
