Eastern Nazarene Edges Western New England, 5-4

QUINCY, Mass. – Senior co-captain Alexander Sause (Cusago, Italy) notched victories at both No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles, but the Western New England University men's tennis team was edged, 5-4, by Eastern Nazarene College in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action this afternoon.

Sause and classmate Chris Spear (Windsor, Conn.) teamed up for an 8-4 win over Andres Biondi/Kevin Paterno as the Golden Bears salvaged a point from the three doubles matches. Sause then rallied to earn a 5-7, 6-3, 10-8 victory over Vladislav Tolmachev at No. 2 singles for his second triumph of the day.

The two teams split the six singles matches, with freshmen Justin Kohut (South Windsor, Conn.) and Drew Berg (Wilbraham, Mass.) also earning points for Western New England. Kohut posted a 6-2, 6-3 win over Andres Biondi at No. 4, and Berg cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Brandon Jenkins at No. 6.

Eastern Nazarene picked up the decisive fifth point courtesy of Paterno, who earned a 6-3, 6-7, 6-3 result over Spear at No. 3 singles.

Western New England (6-3, 2-2 CCC) will be right back in action tomorrow with a non-conference match against Springfield rival American International College at the Volvo Outdoor Courts.
