CRANSTON, R.I. – In its first weekend of the spring season, Harvard sailing posted a fifth-place result at the Sharpe Team Race Trophy in Cranston, Rhode Island.
The Crimson held a 3-3 record after day one of the regatta, good for fifth, posting victories over Roger Williams, Rhode Island and Brown, and falling to Dartmouth, Tufts and Yale. Harvard faced Brown in the second flight of the day and was able to place second, third, and fifth for its first win.
The Crimson's second race was against Rhode Island where the team posted second-, third- and fourth-place results. Harvard fell to Yale after finishing first, fifth and sixth, while winning its fourth race against Roger Williams crossing the line first, second and third. Crimson vessels were not able to hold on in flights seven and eight as it was tripped up by Tufts and Dartmouth in its final races on Saturday.
Racing in 420's, FJ's, and Z420's, the Crimson finished day two with a 5-4 record, keeping its fifth-place spot against the nine other teams. In Flight nine Harvard saw MIT, where the Crimson finished second, third and fourth, before falling to Bowdoin placing third, fourth and sixth in flight 10. In its final race of the day, the Crimson was able to secure its fifth win by finishing second, third and fourth against host Brown.
The Crimson will compete in three regattas March 12-13 including hosting its first spring regatta in the Wood Trophy Team Race. The team will also travel to Maryland for the Women's Navy Regatta hosted by Navy and the St. Mary's Team Race hosted by St. Mary's.
