Women's Volleyball Earns Weekend Sweep With 3-0 Win Over Penn

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard women's volleyball team earned its second sweep of the weekend Saturday night at the Malkin Athletic Center, taking out Penn in straight sets by scores of 25-19, 25-13 and 25-14.

Kathleen Wallace had another big night, turning in a match-high 13 kills to go with a .370 hitting percentage, four digs and four blocks. Christina Cornelius, meanwhile, finished with eight kills, a .533 percentage, seven blocks and six digs.

Corinne Bain contributed seven kills, 16 assists and nine digs, adding two aces to move into sole
possession of second place on Harvard's (6-7, 2-1 Ivy League) career list with 108. Caroline Holte, who last night became the program's career leader in block assists, added four more to her total to give her 303 for her career.

Harvard finished the evening hitting .316, its highest percentage of the season, while limiting Penn (8-7, 2-1 Ivy League) to a .019 clip, the lowest percentage by a Crimson opponent this year. The squad combined for 12 total blocks, marking the sixth straight match Harvard has turned in at least 10 stuffs.

The Crimson raced out to a 5-1 lead to begin the match and never looked back, using a 6-1 stretch to extend the margin to 19-12. Three straight points pulled Penn within 19-15, but Harvard answered back with four straight of its own before taking the set, 25-19.

A 9-1 run created separation between the teams in the second as the Crimson opened up an 18-7 advantage. Paige Kebe scored three of her four kills during the stretch, and a strike by Bain put the frame away, 25-13.

Harvard overwhelmed the Quakers in the third, beginning the stanza with a 7-1 margin before extending it to 22-10 with six-unanswered points. In fitting fashion, Holte and Kebe secured match point with the team's 12th and final block of the evening, 25-14.

Harvard will be back in action at the MAC next weekend as it hosts Brown and Yale to conclude its nine-match homestand. The Bears will first visit Cambridge on Friday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. before the Elis come to town Saturday, Oct. 10 at 5 p.m. Both matches will be available live online via the Ivy League Digital Network.
