Springfield, Massachusetts - The
Springfield College women's tennis program picked up its third win of
the fall, as it bested the Suffolk University Rams, 7-2, on Thursday
afternoon at the Appleton Courts.
With the win, Springfield moves to 3-4 on the year, with two of the
three wins coming at home, while the Rams fall to 5-4, and 3-3 on the
road.
Despite falling in No. 1 doubles, the Pride was able to bounce back, as Rachel Litchfield (Northborough, Mass.) and Melissa Parrish (Framingham, Mass.) defeated Valentina Medina (San Andreas, Colombia) and Abby Trigilo (Ipswich, Mass.), 8-5, before Bri Borus (Dudley, Mass.) and Nicole Piazza (Portland, Conn.)
handled Isabel Rathlev (Wellesley, Mass.) and Lyndsay Reese (Saco,
Maine), 8-3, to give Springfield an 8-3 lead heading into singles.
In the No. 1 singles slot, Rachel London (Port Jefferson, N.Y.)
picked up a win over Aidiana Sagyndykova (Almaty, Kazakstahn), where
she lost the first set, 6-4, before winning the second, 6-2, and the
tiebreaker, 10-7. In No. 3 singles, freshman Emily Etter (Guilford, Conn.) defeated Rebecca Eshoo (Farmington, Conn.), 6-2, 6-0.
Parrish was able to best Trigilo, 6-1, 6-0, in the No. 4 singles
slot, before Litchfield prevailed over Rathlev, 6-1, 6-1. In the No. 6
slot, senior captain Ariana Shemms (Goshen, Conn.) capped the win with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Elena Cisneros (Brookline, Mass.)
Next, Springfield will host Mount Holyoke on Tuesday, October 6 at 4 p.m.
