GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Both the Camels and the Purple & White recorded six shots in the opening half of game that saw both sides have notable offensive opportunities, however Amherst would outshoot the visitors 14-11 and secure a 3-0 victory by game's end.
- Sara Culhane '17 notched her team-leading eighth goal of the season 5:47 into play to give Amherst the 1-0 lead. After a shot by Caroline Feeley '18 led to a skirmish in front of the net, Culhane found the loose ball near the right end line and snuck the ball past the Camel netminder short side.
- Connecticut College nearly evened the score at the 22:20 mark, with goalkeeper Emily Horwitz '17 being forced to come out to nearly the top of the circle to thwart the effort of Jamie Navoni who had gotten behind the Amherst defense.
- Nygren doubled the lead with 17:28 on the clock. After a corner insertion pass found the stick of Katie Paolano '16 on the right side of the net, Paolano moved the ball across the circle to Nygren who was able to tap the ball into the back of the net.
- Horwitz made six saves in the first half, including three noteworthy saves in 1v0 situations to preserve the Amherst shutout heading into intermission.
- Scoring her second goal of the game just over ten minutes into the second period, Nygren corralled the cross-circle pass from Culhane and rifled the shot into an open net.
- The Purple & White held a narrow edge in penalty corners, 6-5.
- Horwitz made eight saves between the pipes en route to her fifth shutout victory of the season, while Nygren and Culhane accounted for six of Amherst's ten shots on goal in the outing.
- Lauren Pianucci registered four saves for the Camels in 46:06 of action, while Ryley van der Velde recorded two saves in a relief effort. Jamie Navoni led Connecticut College in shots, putting all three on goal.
- Amherst will travel to Clinton, N.Y. on Saturday, Oct. 10 to play NESCAC foe Hamilton College beginning at 11 a.m. The matchup is the first of four consecutive road games for the Purple & White who will not return to Gooding Field until Homecoming on Oct. 24.
- The Camels return home to take on Bates on Oct. 10 starting at 12 p.m.
