Holte Became the program's all-time block assists leader in the victory (Gil Talbot).
CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts – The Harvard women's volleyball
team made quick work of Princeton Friday night at the Malkin Athletic
Center, dispatching the Tigers in straight sets, 25-19, 25-17, 25-21.
Caroline Holte
became the program's all-time leader in blocks assists in the victory,
registering four to give her 299 for her career and move her past Suzie
Trimble '08 for the top spot. Harvard (5-7, 1-1 Ivy League) finished
with 10 total blocks on the night, marking the first time since at least
2003, the last year which match-by-match statistics are available for,
that the Crimson has posted double-digit blocks in five consecutive
matches.
Kathleen Wallace had a big night on both sides of the net, totaling 16 kills and a .424 hitting percentage to go with six digs and four blocks. Corinne Bain added 10 kills, 13 assists and nine digs for her ninth straight double-double and 11th of the year.
Paige Kebe contributed six kills and three blocks, while Christina Cornelius notched five kills and
five blocks. Hannah Schmidt dished out 17 assists, helping Harvard to a .280 hitting percentage.
Holte got the record out of the way early as she combined with Wallace and Caroline Labanowski
on three consecutive blocks to put the Crimson in front 6-2 in the
first. Princeton (5-6, 0-2 Ivy League) pulled within 16-14, but Harvard
closed the set out with a 9-5 stretch, 25-19.
The Crimson began to pull away midway through the second, turning an
11-7 advantage into a 16-8 spread. Harvard led 21-13 following a Bain
strike, and put the frame away on a Cornelius kill, 25-17.
Three Wallace kills helped Harvard to a 7-2 margin in the third, but
the Tigers chipped away at the lead and eventually evened the score with
a 4-0 spurt, 14-14. Princeton held a 19-18 edge following a Crimson
service error, but returned the favor with a pair of errors to give
Harvard the lead back at 20-19. It was all Crimson from there, as
Wallace scored three kills over the final six points to give Harvard
match point, 25-21.
Harvard returns to the court today as it hosts Penn in the team's annual Dig Pink Rally. First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m. live on the Ivy League Digital Network.
