HIGHLIGHTS
Boston College picked up their first ACC win of the season Friday night at Notre Dame behind a dominant performance from sophomore captain Sol Calvete, who tallied 14 kills and 8 digs to go along with her two service aces. Seniors Katty Workman and Kam McLain also had noteworthy performances as the two combined for 17 kills and nine blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Set One:
Boston College jumped out to a quick 5-0 start and never looked back as they took the first set by a score of 25-12. In that opening span, Madisen Lydon tallied two service aces. Leading 8-4, Boston College went on a 9-0 run to extend the lead to 17-4. The Irish would look to get back into the game, but Sol Calvete finished off the frame with a kill on a Mallori Moffat assist.
Set Two:
After Calvete's kill for the first point of the set, Notre Dame fired back with four straight points for an early 4-1 lead. Boston College tied it up for the first time at 8-8 and took the 10-8 lead behind back-to-back kills from Calvete and Katty Workman. With the Maroon and Gold up 14-12, they would force two Notre Dame attack errors and Devon Michaelis tallied a service ace in a span of 4-0 run to jump out to an 18-12 lead. The Irish came back with four straight, but the Eagles returned the favor with four straight of their own before a Calvete kill and a forced service error helped BC take the set 25-19 and a 2-0 lead into the break.
Set Three:
Boston College took a 3-1 lead after the break as McKenna Goss and Workman each tallied a kill and the Eagles defense forced a ball handling error. BC had two 3-0 runs when they led 6-4 and 9-6, and quickly extended their lead to 16-8 over the Irish. Boston College finished off the set 25-17 and took the match 3-0 on two additional kills from Calvete, a kill from Anna Skold and a ball handling error from Notre Dame.
COACH QUOTES:
"We got off to a really good start tonight, and maintained our focus and discipline all the way through the end. I was really happy with the girls ability to execute a game plan, and to do so consistently. This was one of the learning points we wanted to take out of last weekend so it's great to see our players ability to make the change in one week."
