UCF had a two-run first and held on for a 4-1 win.

ORLANDO, Fla. – The Boston College softball team dropped a non-conference contest on Wednesday night, falling to the University of Central Florida, 4-1. The Eagles trailed 4-0 heading into the top of the seventh and pulled a run back on a Jenna Ergle home run before going on to load the bases, but the Knights held on for the victory at the UCF Softball Complex.

After the Eagles left two runners on in the home half of the first, UCF used a double and a subsequent two-run home run to hold a 2-0 lead after the first full frame. Gianna Boccagno led off the top of the second with a single for BC and Gianna Randazza and Lexi DiEmmanuele followed up with singles but all three runners were stranded.

The 2-0 score line would end up holding all way the way to the bottom of the fifth, when Knights pushed two unearned runs across the plate for a 4-0 edge. Ergle led off the top of the seventh with a home run to left center and then Kristin Giery walked, Boccagno singled and Allyson Moore was hit by a pitch to load the bases. UCF, though, would get the final two outs to quell the Eagles' comeback bid.

After giving up the two earned runs in the first, Camryn Dolby held UCF hitless for the next 3.1 innings before allowing a single and giving way to Susannah Anderson. Anderson pitched 1.2 innings, giving up one run on one hit while walking one and striking out four. Dolby pitched 4.1 innings, giving up three runs – two earned – on four hits while walking one and striking out four.

Boccagno led BC with two hits while DiEmmanuele, Ergel and Randazza each picked up one.
