Baseball Battles in Setback to Neumann

THE BASICS
-Score: Neumann College 2, Clark University 1 – 10 Innings
-Records: Clark (1-2), Neumann (5-6)
-Location: Auburndale, Fla. (Lake Myrtle Park)
-The Lead: The Clark University baseball team fell to the Knights of Neumann College in extra innings in day two of the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational in Auburndale, Florida. The Knights walked off in the bottom of the 10th inning with the 2-1 final victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Knights hopped on the board early with an unearned run in the bottom of the first inning. Senior John Lindeborn (Gloucester, N.J.) started things off with a double to center field before sophomore Zach Ray (Voorhees, N.J.) put the ball into play and reached on a Clark error that allowed Lindeborn to cross home.

-The Cougars tied the game in the top of the sixth when a pop fly from junior Derek Lefebvre (Groton, Mass.) appeared to be going into foul territory, but landed fair and his classmate Andrew Thibault (Nashua, N.H.) was able to read the play and get himself across home plate (1-1).

-With two outs on the board in the bottom of the 10th, Lindeborn singled down the left field line to score senior Joe Nepi (New Castle, Del.) for the walk-off 2-1 victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-Lefebvre led Clark at the plate with three hits and an RBI on the day while Thibault finished with a hit and a run scored for the Cougars.

-Lindeborn led the Knights to victory with three hits, one RBI, and one run scored.

-Sophomore Nick Guarino (New Haven, Conn.) pitched a fantastic nine innings for Clark. In 32 batters faced he recorded eight strikeouts and allowed just four hits and one unearned run. First year Jacob Pullen (Sudbury, Mass.) took the loss of the mound for Clark as he came in for the final inning with the game tied 2-2 and allowed one hit and one earned run.

-Sophomore Jared Morris (Springfield, Mass.) pitched the final three innings for Neumann and earned the win. He improves to 3-0 this season.

UP NEXT
-Clark takes on Penn.-State Altoona on Tuesday, March 5th at Lake Myrtle Park (Field #1) at 9:00 a.m.
