Wheaton College Softball Defeats Salve Regina

NORTON, Mass. - Earning its fourth straight win, the Wheaton College softball team swept the Salve Regina Seahawks 10-1 and 12-6 in a non-conference double-header at Clark Field on Tuesday.
Wheaton improves to 19-11 overall while the Seahawks move to 12-14.

GAME 1 - Wheaton 10, Salve Regina 1 (5 inn.)
The Lyons exploded with a dominate first inning, scoring eight runs beginning with a two-run single to left center by Marissa Timoteo. Emily Bouthillette followed with a single of her own, this one placed up the middle to knock in Kelly Welch while Erin Deneen and Madeline Hatch each doubled to tally RBI of their own. Mary DeMoura collected the finally RBI of the inning after she singled to right field to score in Emma Hart and Hatch.

Salve Regina took advantage of an error in the top of the second to get on the board, but it would stop
their as Wheaton tallied two more runs in the bottom half of the inning to help seal the 10-1 victory.
Pitcher Danielle Cimino earns the win for the Lyons and advances to 7-5 overall with six strikeouts.

GAME 2 - Wheaton 12, Salve Regina 6 The Seahawks jumped on the board right away in the first inning, registering three runs starting with a two-run homer to right field by Kara O'Riley. Courtney Nowicki tallied the final run of the inning with a single to center field to bring in Kristen Hickey.

In the second inning, Salve Regina tacked on two more runs to advance the lead to 5-1. Wheaton put their bats to the test in the third inning when they pushed in three runs to put them within two.
It was the fourth inning when the Lyons took control of the lead with two RBI singles to kick off the inning followed by a huge three-run homer from Timoteo to left field and a two-run homer by Bouthillette to left field.

The Seahawks offered one more run in the fifth, but it wouldn't be enough as Wheaton notched the 12-6 win.

Pitcher Allison Cox (8-2) earned the win for the Lyons.

UP NEXT
Wheaton travels to Smith College (10-18, 6-8 NEWMAC) on Friday for a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) double-header slated for 3 p.m.
