Wheaton College Baseball Earns 10th Straight NEWMAC Win

NORTON, Mass. – Jared Sharkey and  Zachary Goodwin-Boyd each finished with RBI doubles to help lead the Wheaton College baseball team to their 10th straight New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest with a 12-3 win over the Coast Guard Academy at Sidell Stadium.

The Lyons improve to 22-7 overall and 12-2 in conference play, while the Bears fall to 14-17 overall and 6-7 in the NEWMAC.

Justin Sellar, who was 3-for-4 with two runs scored, also picked up an RBI with an RBI single
through the right side in the second inning. The hit knocked in Sharkey who knocked in the first run of the game moments prior. Ryan McKeon brought in Sellar a few minutes later with a single to right field.

The Bears tied the contest at 3-3 after plating runs in the top of the fourth and fifth, starting with an RBI ground out by Kyle Wood. Will Stephens plated the next two runs in the fifth with an RBI double to left center that sent Mark Behne and Ed Lazowski home.

Wheaton recaptured its lead for good in the bottom half of the fifth with McKeon, Matt Lavanchy and Joshua LaJoie all coming in to score. The Lyons posted one more run in each of the next two innings, before putting together a five run eighth.

Jordan Jenkins picked up the win after 1.2 innings of work, which saw him strike out two and walk one. Junior Michael Bruemmel started the contest, finishing three complete which saw him give up just two hits.

Dan Finn earned the loss after pitching five complete, surrendering five runs on seven hits, walking two and striking out one.

Stephens led the Bears with two hits in the loss.

Wheaton returns to action on Thursday, April 21 at 4 p.m. at home against Western New England.
