BIDDEFORD, Maine — The Nor'easters of UNE piled up 28 hits between two games to hand Gordon two losses in Commonwealth Coast Conference softball play. UNE scored 12 runs on 17 hits in game one, while holding Gordon to only four scores. In game two, the Nor'easters scored 10 times in a five-inning contest.

The Fighting Scots fall to 6-19-1 and 1-11 in the conference this season. The Nor'easters improve to 17-7 and 8-4 respectively.

Game One: Gordon 4 – 12 UNE / 6 innings

The Nor'easters scored four times over the first two innings to take control early. Gordon hurt itself
during the first two innings, as three of the four UNE runs crossed the plate as a result of an error in the field.

Megan Jenkerson (McDonough, Ga.) stayed hit with her third round tripper in as many games, a solo shot. Jenkerson was also responsible for Gordon's run in the fourth inning with a single inside the bag at third to make it a 4-2 game.

UNE tallied three runs in the bottom half of the fourth, including a pair of RBI singles to put Gordon in a deeper hole.

Marissa Meenan (Wayne, Pa.) doubled to make it a 7-3 game and UNE's lone error of the contest allowed her to score in the fifth to draw Gordon within three.

However, UNE owned the game down the stretch with five RBI hits in the sixth inning to end the game effectively at 12-4. Eight of UNE's starters had multi-hit games, but only two went for extra bases compared to three such hits for Gordon.

Game Two: Gordon 0 – 10 UNE / 5 innings

The Nor'easters played a near-flawless game two and put the contest away early. A triple by Sydney Helmbrect (Grand Rapids, Minn.) spurred UNE to two runs in the second inning.

UNE sent 14 batters to the plate in the bottom of the third, which allowed them to score eight runs on seven hits. Three errors committed by the Scots also led to the disastrous inning.

Half of the Nor'easters runs were earned in the game and Abigail Knowlton (Deer Isle, Maine) was tagged for the loss despite three strikeouts.

Gordon could only muster three hits over five innings at the plate.
