No. 8 Amherst Powers Past Mount Holyoke, 18-4

SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - Kelly Karczewski '18 and Claire Cagnassola '17 netted three goals each and 11 different players scored a goal as the eighth-ranked Amherst College women's lacrosse team powered past Mount Holyoke College, 18-4, Wednesday evening at the Mount Holyoke College Turf Field in South Hadley, Mass.

With the win, Amherst improves to 10-2 on the season, while Mount Holyoke moves to 2-10 overall.
Amherst scored 12 goals in the first half and six in the second stanza to post its decisive, 18-4 victory.

FIRST HALF HIGHLIGHTS

• Amherst scored four straight goals to start the game, as Kate Wyeth '17 and Mia Haughton '16 scored, before Rachel Passarelli '16 fired in back-to-back markers to make it 4-0. Karczewski and Devin O'Connor '16 provide the assists on the first and fourth goals of the span.
• Julia Bell scored a Mount Holyoke goal at the 22:08 mark with help from Catherine Ryan, before the Purple & Whtie struck for four-more scores. 
• An O'Connor tally, followed by back-to-back goals from Karczewski, and a Mary Grace Cronin '17 score at the 13:24 mark, lifted the Amherst lead to 8-1. Haughton provided three assists during the run, while Karczewski's score came on a free position attempt.
• Bell scored again for the Lyons just 18 seconds later, but a third stretch of four consecutive goals helped the visitors run out a 12-2 advantage with 6:49 remaining in the first half. 
• Cronin scored her second of the contest, while Julia Crerend '18 added two of her own. Cagnassola provided the other goal and was assisted by Haughton, while Cronin dished out a pass on Crerend's second strike. 
• Bell delivered her third goal of the game with four minutes left in the period with a helper from Haley Subocz, to set the halftime score at 12-3.

SECOND HALF HIGHLIGHTS

• The Purple & White received goals from Cagnassola on a free position shot, and then Haughton found Sabrina Solow '19 for her first collegiate goal to make it 14-3.
• Bell proved effective once more for the Lyons, collecting her fourth goal of the game (from Leila Kouakou) to make it 14-4, but for the fourth time in the game, the Purple & White responded with four straight goals. 
• Karczewsi and Cagnassola netted their third and final scores of the game (assisted by Haughton and Crerend respectively), while Lindsey Call '19 and Haley Henriksen '19 each found the back of the net for the first time in their collegiate careers to set the final score at 18-4. 

BY THE NUMBERS

• O'Connor led Amherst with four ground balls, while Haughton picked up three to go along with her six assists and one goal. 
• Cagnassola and Karczewski logged three draw controls apiece, while Haughton and Coco Kusiak '17 earned two each. Haughton also accounted for two of the team's five caused turnovers in the win.
• Between the pipes, Christy Forrest '16 earned the win in 30 minutes of action. Kyra Gardner '18 played 25:13 in reserve, while Katie Savage '19 played the final 4:47 and made the only save of the game for the Purple & White. 
• Kaitlin Braz picked up four ground balls for Mount Holyoke in the losing effort, while Alyssa Tabrisky and Nicole Perkins added three pickups each. 
• Braz added three caused turnovers while Bell and Tabrisky forced two each. 
• Isa Rodriguez made four saves in 54:11 in goal for the Lyons, while Clarissa Leight played the final 5:49.
