No. 19 Women's Lax Sprints Past St. Bonaventure 23-2



AMHERST, Mass. - Hannah Murphy set a new school record for draw controls as the No. 19 UMass women's lacrosse team defeated St. Bonaventure 23-2 on Friday afternoon at Garber Field. The 23 goals for the Minutewomen were just one shy of tying the program record of 24 scored against Williams in 1980.

The win improves UMass to 12-1 overall and 5-0 in the Atlantic 10. It extended the Minutewomen's win record against A-10 schools to 41 straight, an NCAA record, while also standing as the 20th straight home win which is the fourth-longest streak in NCAA history.

Murphy finished the day with 14 draw controls surpassing the previous record of 12 which was held
by her and Megan Reddy. Reddy had 12 draw controls twice in 2009, while Murphy had tied that record last weekend at George Washington.

Ten different Minutewomen scored goals in the game with Hannah Burnett posting a career-best six. Murphy, Hannah Palau, and Ashley Faulhaber all had three goals, while Ally Tolken notched the first of her career.

IWLCA National Co-Player of the Week Erika Eipp recorded seven points on two goals and five assists.

Defensively, Sam Walters earned the in in cage making one save in the first half, while Aileen Kelly made two saves in the second half.

UMass outshot the Bonnies 50-to-5 for the game and won a commanding 21-of-26 draw controls for the game. Transition defense was key for the Minutewomen allowing just 6-of-18 clear attempts by St. Bonaventure while UMass was 8-of-8 tries.

 

 

After both teams traded goals in the first 90 seconds of play, UMass went on a 19-goal run bridging halftime. The Minutewomen led 16-1 at halftime.

Taylor Fallon scored with 5:11 to go in the game making the score 20-2.
Palau scored twice in the final three minutes, while Tolken added another to give the final score.
