Lyons Sweep Emerson 9-0

NORTON, Mass. - The Wheaton College men's tennis team defeated the Emerson College Lions, 9-0, in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match on Wednesday.

The Lyons kicked off doubles action with a 8-4 win in the No. 1 spot from David Gassen and Jeremiah Ryser. Shreve Archer and Tyler Butler quickly followed with a 8-3 final mark of their own in the No. 2 slot while Alden Zeff and Jim Beaton earned a 8-0 victory at No. 3.

In singles, Gassen picked up a 6-0, 4-6, 10-6 win against Emerson's Antonio Ramirez at No. 1. Ryser continued the momentum for Wheaton in the No. 2 spot when he claimed a 6-1, 6-1 win and Archer followed at No. 3 with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph.

Zeff, Butler and Beaton closed out action for the Lyons in singles, each earning a victory to complete the 9-0 sweep over Emerson.

Wheaton hosts Oneonta State on Friday with action starting at 4 p.m. at the Clark Tennis Courts.
