Harvard's Leung Qualifies for NCAAs with Victory in Platform Dive at Zone A Championships

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Sophomore diver Jing Leung has qualified for the NCAA Championship Meet in the platform dive for the second consecutive year after winning the event at the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships in Annapolis, Maryland Wednesday.

Leung put up the top score of 504.95, finishing ahead of runner-up Addison Walkowiak of Rutgers, who registered a score of 495.40. Leung is returning to the NCAA Championships for the second-straight year. At the 2015 event in Greensboro, North Carolina, she placed 26th.

Leung's victory caps a solid performance for the Crimson at the Zone A Championships. On Monday, Mikaela Thompson and Alisha Mah reached the finals of the one-meter board competition.

Thompson led the way with a ninth-place finish, while Mah took 18th. Mah also competed in the three-meter event, placing 30th.

For the men, David Pfeifer notched top-25 finishes in the one- and three-meter dives. On Monday, he placed 23rd on the three-meter board and then placed 19th the next day in the one-meter.

Leung will join freshman Sonia Wang at the 2016 NCAA DI Women's Swimming and Diving Championships in Atlanta March 16-19. Wang qualified in the 200 butterfly. Shane McNamara will represent Harvard at the 2016 NCAA DI Men's Swimming and Diving Championships March 23-26, also in Atlanta, in the 100 breaststroke.
