CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts – The Harvard sailing team aims to capture multiple trophies this weekend as it competes at the NEISA Women's Singlehanded Championship hosted by Boston College, its own Harvard Invitational, the Danmark Trophy hosted by Coast Guard, the Smith Trophy hosted by MIT and the Mystic Lake Invitational hosted by Tufts. The championship, the Danmark Trophy and the Smith Trophy will take place Oct. 3-4, while the Harvard Invitational and the Mystic Lake Invitational are one-day events on Oct. 3 and Oct. 4, respectively.

Last Time Out
Juan Carlos Perdomo placed first at the NEISA Men's Singlehanded Championship, which qualifies him for the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association Singlehanded National Championship from Nov. 6-8. Harvard also competed in the 33rd Professor Stedman Hood Trophy, placing ninth out of 19 teams. The A-division vessel of skipper Nick Sertl and crew Nomin-Erdene Jagdagdorj sailed into six top-five finishes while the B-division pairing of Nick DiGiovanni and Priscilla Russo had three top-five performances, combining for 150 points.
Fourth Harvard Men's Singlehanded Champion
Junior Juan Carlos Perdomo breezed past 27 other sailors en route to capturing the NEISA Men's Singlehanded Championship. The junior took over the lead early in the event winning race four before going on to finish in the top-five in eight of the remaining 10 races.
Perdomo is the fourth member of the Crimson to win the NEISA Men's Singlehanded Championship and firt since Kyle Kovacs '08 in 2008. Perdomo also competed in the championship as a freshman, placing second.
About the NEISA Women's Singlehanded Championship
Sophomore Taylor Ladd and freshman Taylor Gavula will vie for the NEISA Women's Singlehanded Championship racing in Laser Radial vessels at Boston College. Ladd competed in last years championship and placed 12th out of 18 sailors. Sloan Devlin '06 is the only member of the Crimson to win the NEISA Women's Singlehanded Championship, capturing the title in 2006.

About the Harvard Invitational
Two divisions of FJ dinghies will race down the Charles in the one-day event on Oct. 3. In the opening weekend, Harvard posted a third-place finish at the first Harvard Invitational.

About the Danmark Trophy
In this interconference regatta, two divisions of 420's and FJ vessels will sail at Coast Guard. At last year's Danmark Trophy, Harvard finished eighth out of 20 teams.

About the Smith Trophy
Competing for the Smith Trophy, the Crimson will start from the Walter C. Wood Sailing Pavilion at MIT and sail in FF and Tech dinghies. Harvard vies to top its fourth-place finish at last years' regatta.

About the Mystic Lake Invitational, Central Series Four
Two divisions of pairings will sail out of the Mystic Lake and Tufts Boathouses competing in Larks on Sunday At its last Central Series Four, Harvard ended the regatta as the runner-up totaling seven top-five finishes.

Forecast
At the championship, the Mystic Lake Invitational and the Smith Trophy, vessels will sail with Northeast winds at 20-25 knots, diminishing to 15-20 knots on Saturday afternoon with gusts up to 30 knots. Waves will reach around three feet and there is a slight chance of rain. On Sunday, the championship and the Harvard Invitational will face winds coming from the Northeast around 10-15 knots and gusts up to 20 knots. There is also a small chance of rain while the waves stay around three feet.

Leading the Way
Head coach Michael O'Connor will lead Harvard in his 19th season at Harvard. Since he took over the Crimson program in 1997, Harvard has won a pair of national team race championships (2002, 2003), as well as a national coed championship (2003) and a women's national title (2005).
Aye Aye Captain
Seniors Andrew Mollerus and Sydney Karnovsky were named captains for a second straight year. Both were named to the 2015 ICSA All-Academic Sailing Team and Karnovsky was named to the ICSA All-America team as crew.
Up Next
Harvard will compete in its only regatta of the weekend as it travels to Rhode Island to compete for the Moody Trophy from Oct. 10-11.
