Lyons Shut Out by Bears

NORTON, Mass. – The Wheaton College men's soccer team had the rare occasion to compete under the lights at Nordin Field, but were shut out, 2-0, against the Bridgewater State University Bears on Wednesday.

Matisse Baumann was the first to act for the Lyons (8-7, 2-2 NEWMAC) with a shot on goal in the first four minutes that just missed. Amara Sesay followed him with a shot of his own to get the momentum going for Wheaton.

Wheaton's defense later went to work as they deflected shots from the Bears (10-2-1, 4-0 MASCAC)
for the remainder of the half to keep them off the scoreboard.

Pat O'Rourke put up one more shot effort for the Lyons in the first half, but was blocked at the last second.

Bridgewater came out firing in the second half as they put through their first goal in the 50^th minute on the left side of the net. Louis Chavez and Noah Kossoff regained possession and worked to even the score, but missed just wide. The Bears knocked in the second goal eight minutes later off a corner kick that was placed to the right of the net to bring the score up, 2-0.

Dimitri Roumeliotis began the shooting drive for the Lyons on offense as he, Kossoff, Curran Wait, and Kevin Gil worked together by putting pressure on the Bears, but came up just short of a goal.

Goalkeeper Erik Wisniewski (0-1) collected three saves as the Lyons outshot the Bears 13-11.
This was only the third time Bridgewater has defeated Wheaton as the Lyons hold the overall 19-3 record.

Wheaton travels to Emerson College (4-9, 0-4 NEWMAC) on Saturday as they pick up New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference competition again with game time scheduled for 1 p.m.
