No. 6 Middlebury Powers Past Women's Lacrosse, 16-1

Middlebury, Vt. - March 8, 2019 - The Springfield College women's lacrosse team dropped its second-consecutive game to a nationally-ranked opponent, as the Pride fell to Middlebury College on Friday afternoon at Kohn Field.

With the loss, the Pride is now 3-2 overall, while the Panthers, which were ranked No. 6 in the latest Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division III national rankings, improve to 1-1 on the year. Middlebury owned a 29-5 advantage in shots over 60 minutes of play, while also securing 10 draw controls to the Pride's eight. The Panthers also held a 20-12 advantage in ground balls in the victory.

Springfield College's Brenna Keefe (Acton, Mass.) made six saves in her second loss of the year, while Middlebury's Julia Keith (North Andover, Mass.) and Kate Furber (Manchester, Mass.) split time in the cage for the Panthers, totaling three saves in the win. Senior midfielder Taylor Kane (Woburn, Mass.) had five draw controls and three ground balls in the loss.

Middlebury got off to a hot start as the Panthers scored the first seven goals of the contest in the first 9:36. In the seven-goal span, Kate Zecca (Leesburg, Va.) had four points, including two goals and two assists to lead Middlebury. From there, Zecca completed the first-half hat trick with a goal at the 13:45 mark, before the Panthers netted four more to take a 12-0 advantage into the halftime break.
Opening up the second half, Madeline Riordan (Larchmont, N.Y.) found the back of the net just 2:26 into the frame, before the Panthers eventually made it 16-0 with a goal from Jane Earley (North Falmouth, Mass.) at the 2:33 mark. As time expired, the Pride got its lone goal, as Katie Martel (Granby, Conn.) found the back of the net on an assist from Jamie Jutras (Litchfield, N.H.), making it 16-1.

Up next, Springfield College will continue its tough non-conference slate when it travels to No.9 Trinity on Wednesday, March 13 for a 6 p.m. contest with the Bantams.
